While my birthday was actually last week, I am still very much in celebration mode. Consider the month of May MY birthday! In between the celebrating and eating all the things that I shouldn't, I missed posting my birthday reflection on this milestone. Read on to see how I am reflecting and some of the things I have found to celebrate. ..
In my twenties, I thought 40 was when you were officially an OLD person and in my mind, forty was a long way away for me. Jokes on me, it has arrived and it feels like it came fast! As I thought of this birthday and the blessing it is to not only reach this milestone but to be in such a good place, mentally, physically and spiritually, at its arrival, I decided to make a list of the things that I am grateful for and that I am reflecting on this trip around the Sun.
1. Forty is not old, I am just hitting my prime and coming into my own.
2. Work friends are SO important. We often spend more time with our work colleagues than we do with our actual families. The relationships I have formed with my work besties throughout my professional career are special and they are an important part of my success at work and in my professional career.
3. Everything that has happened was a necessary part of my journey. Even the things that hurt or left me disappointment, played a part in me evolving and growing.
4. Rejections are just as important as being accepted. There is growth in having to pick yourself up after not being chosen or having to reroute when your direction led to a dead end or the wrong location.
5. 40 really is a thing - there has been a natural, unconscious shift that has been slowly happening for me leading up to my 40th birthday. I am more easily able to say NO when I feel it, my ability to communicate what I want and what I think flows easier, and I am I am finding my voice.
6. My confidence in who I am and in my power is unrecognizable to me. (I don’t really know this person but I like her and I want to get to know her better.)
7. One day you will appreciate all the parts of yourself - even the things you were once insecure about or wished were different. Self acceptance is powerful.
8. Stop saying you don’t have any talents or gifts. They are there, it may just take you some time to recognize what they are. Now that you know them, be grateful for them and share them with the world.
9. Be Still & Be Patient. I am learning the power in being still and letting God do his thing. Being patient is not always easy but is necessary when you are unsure and you don’t know what the next step should be.
10. My support system is everything. My family and friends are my real flex. PERIOD.
I hope you find something that resonates with you or inspires you…Here’s to 40!
