Take Me Back… Immediately.
That’s the phrase currently on repeat in my head, right alongside a very grown-up, internal version of a tantrum because vacation is over and reality has the audacity to expect me back.
But this wasn’t just any vacation. This was the kind of trip that reminds you why you do what you do and why you love it.
Just a few week ago, I had the best of both worlds: I was in a wedding… and I was working the wedding. And honestly, who wouldn’t jump at the opportunity to be poolside in sunny Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, styling a wedding party and guests? That’s not work, that’s purpose and that’s God’s favor.
This bride? She knew what she wanted.
Instead of the traditional “everyone wear the exact same dress,” she leaned into a more modern, expressive approach. Her bridesmaid’s feeling confident was more important than uniformity to her. She selected a color palette and gave her bridesmaids (and even guests) the freedom to choose their own looks within it. The vibe? Bright, tropical, effortless. Think oranges, pinks, yellows, and greens; colors that didn’t just complement the scenery, they were a part of it.
And me? I already knew I color I had my eye on. My eye was on orange. Not only is it a color that works beautifully for me, but I also knew it would pop against the ocean blues and sandy neutrals of the destination. It wasn’t just about wearing a dress; it was about becoming part of the visual story. Which you can see in the pictures below.
Now let’s talk about the real work behind the beauty of it all: helping bring the vision of the bride to life while also helping the girls find the dress that that both spoke to their aesthetic and fit the party color assignment.
One of the bridesmaids came to me with a request: she wanted to wear pants instead of a dress; HARD PAUSE. If you know weddings, you know this could either go very right or VERY wrong. I had my reservations, but I also love a good challenge. My goal was clear: honor her personal style and maintain the cohesion of the bridal party and the wedding. Mission accomplished! (See the bridesmaid in green below.)
So I got to work. The task wasn’t just about color, it was also about function. I had to consider:
The materials - are they breathable, destination-friendly fabrics?
Will it travel? The dresses had to survive being packed in luggage or carried on the plane
Will it arrive on time? Timelines had to account for order and shipping time, trying on, size adjustments if needed and possible alterations
Every detail mattered. Because when you’re styling for an event like this, you’re not just picking outfits, you’re impacting the vision of the bride and the impact of the experience. I also had the honor of styling the mother and father of the bride. Two very different style stories with one shared goal: feeling good.
For him, it was all about comfort and ease. Bright colors weren’t exactly his go-to, so stepping into this palette required a lot of reassurance and (not so) subtle nudging. For her, the goal was clear: beautiful, classy, and some level of modesty. I knew everything hanging out would not meet any of the goals she had in mind for her look. My role? To make sure they not only felt confident individually but looked cohesive together. As the parental unit of the bride, their style wasn’t just about them individually, it was also bout how their looks complemented each other.
For some of the bridesmaids, I shopped for them and for other bridesmaids, I didn’t select their dresses for them, instead, I stepped into more of an advisory role, helping them refine their choices, weigh options, and make final decisions. Behind the scenes, I was also tracking the overall color distribution to ensure balance. Making sure no single shade overpowering the others. No visual chaos. Just harmony.
Sometimes people don’t always see or think about the overall picture when they think styling. Its not just about the clothing options, it also about the vision, its about balance and cohesiveness and that within those things, every person feels like the best representation of themselves in their clothes.
And when it all comes together, when the colors pop against that tropical backdrop, when everyone feels confident, when the energy is effortless…That’s the magic.
And yes… I'm absolutely ready for go back and do it all over again, Immediately. Congratulations to the bride and groom on their union and a beautiful wedding! See below for some wedding photos.
With Style & Grace,
-Bianca
